Final-year MBBS student found dead in hostel room at Maulana Azad Medical College

A 23-year-old final-year MBBS student was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) on Monday afternoon, police said. No suicide note was recovered from the spot and the reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Dwarka (identity undisclosed). She was posted in the surgery department of Lok Nayak Hospital and was supposed to appear for her final exams in March.

According to the police, they received a call around 1:30 pm from the hostel warden, who informed them about the incident. A team of forensic experts and senior officers rushed to the spot and examined the scene. The body was sent for post-mortem and the family was informed.

“We have registered a case of suicide and are investigating the matter. We are questioning her friends, batchmates, and relatives to find out if she was facing any academic, personal, or professional stress. We have not found any evidence of foul play so far,” a senior police officer said.

Her friends and batchmates expressed shock and grief over her death and said she was a bright, helpful, and cheerful person who always had a smile on her face. They said she was passionate about her studies and had no apparent issues or problems.

“She was one of the most brilliant and hardworking students in our batch. She was always ready to help others and never complained about anything. She was very friendly and popular among everyone. We can’t believe that she is no more. We don’t know what made her take such a drastic step. We are devastated,” a friend of deceased said.

The college and hospital authorities have not issued any official statement on the matter yet. Sources said they are providing counselling and support to the students and staff who are affected by the incident.
