IIT Madras Honors Alumni for Chandrayaan-3 Mission

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) honored 12 of its alumni on October 8, 2023, for their contributions to the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The event, titled “Over the Moon with Team Chandrayaan-3,” was attended by top scientists and engineers from ISRO, as well as students from IIT Madras and various government schools and city colleges.

The 12 alumni who were honored are:

  • Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)
  • Dr. P. Arun Kumar, Deputy Director, Earth Storable Engines and Stages (ESES)
  • Dr. John Tharakan, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC)
  • Shri Abdul Hameed, Scientist/Engineer, U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC)
  • Shri Rajeev Senan C., Division Head, Monopropellant Systems & Components Division, LPSC
  • Dr. Shamrao, Scientist, URSC
  • Dr. P. Veeramuthuvel, Associate Project Director, Chandrayaan-3 Mission
  • Dr. S. Srikant, Mission Director, Chandrayaan-3 Mission
  • Dr. Kalpana Ramesh, Scientist, VSSC
  • Dr. M. Sankaran, Associate Project Director, Chandrayaan-3 Mission
  • Dr. S. Suresh, Associate Project Director, Chandrayaan-3 Mission
  • Dr. N. Venkatesan, Senior Scientist, VSSC
  • Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Scientist, VSSC

The event was a celebration of the achievements of these alumni and their contributions to Indian space exploration. It was also an opportunity to inspire students to pursue careers in science and engineering.

In his speech at the event, IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “We are extremely proud of our alumni who have played a pivotal role in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Their contributions are a testament to the quality of education and research at IIT Madras. We are confident that they will continue to make significant contributions to Indian science and technology in the years to come.”
