99 students were admitted to the GR Medical College Hospital and Research Centre in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. However, in July 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) suspended the college’s affiliation. This meant that the students could not continue their studies at the college.

The students filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, seeking permission to transfer to other colleges. The court directed the Director of Medical Education (DME) to temporarily transfer the students to other private colleges in the state to help them appear for the examination to be held in October 2023.

The DME has identified 24 private colleges where the students can be transferred. The students will be able to choose their preferred college from the list. The DME will also bear the cost of the transfer.
